An open-air work of art…
In the heart of Vietri sul Mare, one of the most iconic spots on the Amalfi Coast, the restoration of Piazza Amendola has become a tribute to the city’s ceramic heritage and Mediterranean spirit. A space where art, tradition and landscape come together – and where water management had to meet the highest standards.
In this much-photographed square – often said to be the most photographed in Italy – our HIDDEN drainage system has been installed, designed to blend almost invisibly into paving where aesthetics take centre stage.
If you also need an inconspicuous drainage system with a high hydraulic capacity for your project, contact us here.
Seamless integration with the square’s ceramic surface
The project required that no technical element interfere with the view of the vast ceramic tapestry depicting two sirens, inspired by the work of master ceramicist Guido Gambone. Our slot drainage system provides a discreet, continuous solution that aligns perfectly with the paving joints, preserving the artistic vision of architects Alessandro Rosolia and Giancarlo Solimene.
As the square tells its stories through colour and mosaic, our hidden drainage remains fully integrated, never distracting from the art. It simply does its job: collecting, channelling and disappearing.
Outstanding hydraulic performance in a demanding setting
Located close to the sea and subject to heavy footfall, the area required a drainage system capable of handling intense rainfall without compromising safety.
The linear drainage channels installed around the perimeter of the square offer sufficient hydraulic capacity to evacuate water efficiently, preventing puddles that could damage the stunning ceramic surface.
In doing so, we combine aesthetics and functionality – honouring the local ceramic tradition while ensuring optimal performance even in high-flow conditions.
A square that celebrates the past while embracing the future
Piazza Amendola is built over an historic fill made from materials sourced from former ceramic factories. The current project reinterprets that memory through mosaics, ceramic pieces and marine motifs evoking the Mediterranean imagination, connecting visitors with the historical identity of Vietri.
In a space where every detail has been designed to endure, our drainage system plays its part without taking the spotlight – delivering durability, safety and reliable performance over time.
