ULMA’s commitment to sustainable and ecological construction

ULMA’s commitment to sustainable and ecological construction

Sustainable construction systems prioritize environmental protection, using materials, resources, processes and techniques with zero, or at least minimal, impact on the natural environment.

These systems have more value points and contribute actively to comfort and quality in the home. For example, a building constructed with sustainable materials and using efficient construction techniques that significantly reduce energy consumption, such as thermal and acoustic insulation, will provide many benefits to inhabitants, including protection from cold, heat and noise, without wasting financial or environmental resources.

ULMA's commitment to sustainability, environmental protection and energy efficiency

At ULMA we are well aware of the current climate emergency situation our planet finds itself in and we are convinced that the solution involves a commitment to sustainable development.

Our goal at ULMA is to ensure that our activities in the construction sector are eco-friendly, sustainable and energy-efficient, and the strategy we follow is based on two fundamental pillars:

  • Obtaining certifications like LEED, BREAM and many more.
  • Using construction materials and techniques that have the least possible impact on the environment.

ULMA’s contribution to the LEED Certification

The LEED certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is awarded to buildings to certify that they were constructed in accordance with sustainability criteria, in addition to other factors. Many different aspects are involved in this, including energy efficiency and optimization of materials and resources.

ULMA's contribution to the LEED Certification in the various projects it has participated in is primarily focused on using the most environmentally-friendly procedures, materials and construction systems.

At ULMA we pay great attention to the environmental impact that may be generated during material manufacturing processes, which is why, among other factors, we aim to ensure that the raw materials we use are sourced locally or regionally, to minimize the environmental impact of transport and to boost the local economy.

How we tackle the issue of sustainable materials and construction techniques at ULMA

Sustainable materials in the construction sector are those that are efficient in terms of resource and energy consumption and that minimize pollution caused by the release of gases into the atmosphere, among other factors, when being produced and when being used.

Our main contribution when it comes to the use of sustainable materials is to ensure that we mostly use natural aggregates in the production of our STONEO cladding panels for facade cladding.

The main benefit of materials made of natural aggregates is that their manufacture process has barely any carbon footprint, and they are also recyclable, which helps to lay the foundations for a circular economy. This is based on reusing resources to create a circular system that helps to change today's prominent trend based on the linear economy.

Another key aspect of our constructions is their extraordinary durability. Our facade cladding barely changes at all over the course of time. This means that you won't need to carry out any restoration or even maintenance work for decades, which will lead to significant savings in resources and reduced environmental wear and tear in the long run.

Furthermore, facade cladding is considered to be one of the best construction solutions available right now, and it is also highly efficient and provides significant energy savings.

Our commitment to the environment is comprehensive, encompassing elements such as the design of the various construction elements, where we aim to incorporate elements like Cradle to Cradle (C2C) or the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), to go one step further in terms of the reuse and recycling potential of materials and resources.

In short, at ULMA our understanding of the concept of sustainability and environmental protection stems from a broad and global perspective. That is why our strategies are not only focused on materials, but also on developing sustainable construction systems that take into account an entire range of factors that, together, contribute to reaching the key goal of achieving development that is sustainable and in line with ecology and the circular economy.
