Drainage in logistics platforms | Interporto Pordenone

Drainage systems for logistics platforms using KompaqDrain polymer concrete channels, designed to handle heavy traffic and efficiently manage large water volumes.
Drainage in logistics platforms | Interporto Pordenone

In the design of logistics platforms, the drainage system is a critical element that often goes unnoticed… until it stops working properly.

In this type of infrastructure, where dozens of trucks operate every day, drainage must serve a dual purpose: efficiently channelling large volumes of water across impermeable surfaces while withstanding continuous heavy traffic without any loss of performance.

Yet when the drainage system is not properly sized at the design phase, familiar problems begin to emerge for engineers and contractors alike: water pooling, premature pavement deterioration, rising maintenance costs and, in some cases, operational disruptions.

Drainage in logistics platforms: the Interporto Pordenone case

Interporto Pordenone, located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy, is a strategic hub within Europe’s intermodal transport corridors.

The complex is currently being expanded to increase its operational capacity and improve infrastructure efficiency.

This work includes the construction of new logistics platforms, manoeuvring areas and heavy-traffic surfaces, where a well-designed drainage system is essential to the site’s overall functionality.

In this context, drainage becomes a strategic component in its own right, supporting the hub’s growth and safeguarding long-term operational performance.

Drainage designed for heavy traffic: installed solution

As part of this project, approximately 400 linear metres of KompaqDrain drainage channels with the Max-Flow system have been installed, a solution developed specifically for logistics and industrial environments.

In applications of this kind, drainage systems must address three key challenges:

  • Managing large volumes of water during periods of intense rainfall.
  • Withstanding high loads generated by heavy traffic.
  • Maintaining hydraulic performance over time.

KompaqDrain channels, manufactured in polymer concrete and featuring a monolithic design, combine high structural strength with optimised hydraulic performance.

This ensures efficient water evacuation, reducing the risk of surface build-up and improving operational safety, even under demanding conditions.

Their design also allows for more efficient on-site installation, a significant advantage in projects where execution timelines and coordination between construction phases are critical.

Industrial drainage to ensure logistics operations

In logistics and industrial infrastructure, drainage must do more than simply remove water: it must also ensure continuity of operations.

For this reason, robust industrial drainage solutions suited to heavy traffic are essential to minimise risk, optimise maintenance and guarantee the long-term durability of facilities.

The works at Interporto Pordenone form part of an investment plan exceeding €100 million for the 2025–2030 period, aimed at strengthening its role within the European logistics network.
