Prefabricated Systems for ULMA Linear Drainage are the result of combining our material, polymer concrete, with its prefabricated capacity, which gives it an unbeatable ease of installation and manpower saving. In addition to gratings for pedestrian usage (both for outdoor and indoor use) and for vehicles , ULMA is endowed with the widest range of gratings for major load areas such as ports, docks and airports. General works site layout conditions

  • The ULMA Architectural Solutions drainage system has been designed and tested under the strictest premises of EN1433 STANDARD, following the construction details set out in these installation instructions.

    The design of the deck adjoining the concrete block/channel unit (concrete, asphalt or paving stone) must be endowed with the expansion and retraction joints required to prevent any tangential or perpendicular strain on the concrete block and channel unit. In line with the construction details of the deck, the sizing of said joints will be decided by the Project Management or designer.

    The illustrations below show what the appropriate installed section should be for each flooring type and type of load as well as the recommended construction details.

Indications common to the different Installation types

  • The cable conduit or ditch must be deep and wide enough to meet the block dimensions recommended in table 1 in line with the type of load required.

    Take special care with the installation of an edgeless channel; the grating thickness must be such that, once the installation has been completed, it remains below the flooring as recommended in Detail A.

    In the event that a compacting process is required in the vicinity of the channel (e.g. asphalt flooring load class A15 and B125), special care must be taken not to damage the channel edge and walls.

    The surrounding flooring and concrete block must remain on a plane of between 3 and 5 mm above the plane of the upper edge of the channel.

General Recommendations

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels The installation of the channels will start at the removal point or the deepest point.

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels Should any of the coats adjoining the concrete block in turn, be made of concrete, an expansion joint must always be placed between the block and said concrete coat.

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels Before pouring the concrete corresponding to the concrete block, place wooden slats or even the gratings themselves protected by a plastic cover so as to avoid deformations which prevent the subsequent installation of the gratings.

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels When opening the premarked outlets (vertical or horizontal), it is recommended to tap the perimeter every 5-6 cm with a drill or a rotaflex so as to subsequently be able to open the premark carefully with a hammer and chisel.

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels The channel must not be used as an expansion joint. This is why whenever there is concrete alongside the concrete bedding, an expansion joint must be placed between both coats. The adjoining deck must be endowed with those expansion and retraction joints required to avoid lateral thrusts onto the concrete bedding.

  • Installation instructions for drainage channels It is recommended to carry out the retraction joint perpendicular to the channel every 6-7 metres and to make it coincide with the union between the channels.
